The World's Best Haunted House Theme Parks
Do you love a good scare? There's nothing quite like the heart thumping adrennaline rush you get from going through a haunted house, but unfortunately most of the haunted houses you find involve riding around on a train and having a person in a black body suit mysteriously touching you from the shadows.
To put it mildly, it's not very scary.
But there are some places in the world that are putting the terror back into terrorising. If you think you can handle it, here are the scariest haunted houses in the world:
McKamey Manor, United States of America
McKamey Manor has a reputation for making grown men cry and people shit their pants in fright. Located in Tennessee and Alabama, McKamey Manor is the most famous of haunted houses run by Russ McKamey, who is a mastermind when it comes to igniting your worst nightmares because it's less haunted house and more torture chamber. McKamey makes you sign a 40 page waiver and goes through rigerous checks before you even get to the haunted house, but the idea is to break you - spiritually, physically, mentally - and see how far you go into your worst nightmares.
Some of McKamey's horrors include force feeding, being water boarded and drowned, being tied up, putting your head into a cage filled with snakes, having spiders crawl over your forced opened mouth, being locked in tiny blood covered cages and put into coffins, being tied up, having your nails clipped off by saws, putting plastic over your head, and an all other manner of torture.
It's less haunted house, and more breaking of the human spirit. And there's no way I would last the ip to ten hours of Hell you are put through.
The 13th Gate, United States of America
The 13th Gate is based in Baton Rouge, Louisianna is highly regarded as one of the top haunted houses in the country. A little less torture-y, and more slick Hollywood, the 13th Gate is known for it's extreme realism and the blurring of the lines between horror and reality. All of the costumes, set designs, and characters are compared to Hollywood horror and features a real snake-infested Louisiana swamp and a rickety bridge, nightly voodoo shows, claustrophobic cellars, hidden subterrainian passages, and even crawling through a crematory oven.
The 40,000 square foot haunted house isn't the only horrifying maze either. There is also the option of doing an escape room based on tombs, horror movies, or a haunted asyulm. It's definetly worth checking out if you are keen to get into the dark spirirts of Hell!
Statesville Haunted Prison, United States of America
Prison is a scary place at the best of times, but the really takes the levels of prison Hell to the extreme. Under the storyline that "prisoners have rioted, guards have fled, and darkness has seized control of this Maximum Security Prison." the "fresh meat" is forced to find your way through 23 maximum security cells and come eye to eye with over 100 criminals that were too evil to die. This includes the terrifying Heretic the Clown, Fluffy the dismemberer, "The Cleaner", the poop-covered "Mad Dog", clowns, medical maniacs, and "Whisper" - the mysterious entity that lurks the halls.
I'm a sucker for a good moving story mixed with hauntings, so this one really takes the cake!
Super Scary Labyrinth of Fear, Japan
The Japanese have always been good at inciting fear with some epic themes and awesome electronics and their number one haunted attraction in Fuji is no different! Set in a ruined hospital, the theme is that the hospital was closed down due to horrific human experiments that one of the surgeons did on the patients. You are only given one penlight at the start, so the darkness will not be your friend, as you navigate your way through terrifying rooms of torture and operation.
Spookers, New Zealand
Spookers is New Zealand's only haunted theme park located in Kingseat near Auckland and is actually situated inside an old mental asylum that is rumoured to be haunted - and with a black cat crossing my path on the way in I feel I can probably confirm this! The haunted house is a gore-filled treasure trove of terrifying actors and you can work your way around heaps of different themed areas including the haunted house itself, the 3D Evil Clown dungeon, the creepy forest with chainsaw weilding serial killer, and the cornfield.
