The Best Halloween Themed TV Episodes
Halloween is coming, and we all know that Halloween is by far the best theme for any event, holiday, party, or costume. It's a time to get spooky and have fun, and usually when it comes to themed episodes of TV shows, the Halloween one usually is the best. So, I've put together a list of some of the best Halloween themed episodes in TV show history!
Community: Epidemiology
Community always delivers the goods in regards to themed episodes, but season two's Halloween episode entitled Epidemiology is by far the best Halloween themed episode of any TV show. The Greendale students attend the school's Halloween party, only to discover that the catering supply of army surplus food is actually contaminated with a zombie virus that transforms the whole school. Hearing that the virus could cause brain damage, Troy, Abed, and Jeff seek out to turn the thermostat down to put an end to the zombies.
Brooklyn 99: Halloween
Halloween is always a bit event on Brooklyn 99 thanks to the squad's determination to pull off a "Halloween Heist" every year. Basically, the tradition is for the squad to attempt different ways to steal an item every year in order to win the coveted title of the ultimate detective/genius. Let's be real, all of the Brooklyn 99 Halloween episodes are worth a watch (season 1, episode 6; season 2 episode 4; season 3, episode 5; season 4, episode 5, and season 6, episode 16 FYI) but the best one has to be the fifth season's episode, where Jake puts a twist on the heist in order to propose to Amy.
Modern Family: Halloween
In season 2 of Modern Family, Halloween brings out the best of the Pritchett-Dunphy's that hasn't been as met in other seasons. During the episode, Mitchell is horrified to discover he is the only person dressed up for Halloween at his work, Claire puts on an over the top haunted house, and Hayley struggles to find a non-slutty Halloween costume. Of course, our favourite characters use some very spooky ways to overcome their challenges, but Mitchell's buff physique has to be one of the best parts.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Halloween
Buffy the Vampire Slayer has quite a few great Halloween episodes, and many depict season 4's "Fear Itself" as the best one, but it's hard to go past season two's take. In this episode, the characters are all put under a spell that turns them into their Halloween problems. This wouldn't be much of a problem, except for the fact that the fearless leader Buffy is dressed as a lady of leisure complete with damsel in distress attitude, and Willow is dressed as a ghost.
How I Met Your Mother: The Slutty Pumpkin
How I Met Your Mother's first season Halloween episode has to be one of the most iconic. In the show, Ted stresses over a missed connection with a woman deemed "The Slutty Pumpkin" who was wearing a pumpkin outfit at the apartment building's Halloween party. As Ted tries to retrace his steps to find his potential "the one" he dons the same boring hanging chad costume and tries to meet up with her again. Bonus points for watching season 7, episode 8 The Slutty Pumpkin Returns to put the rather famous face of Katie Holmes to the Slutty Pumpkin name.
Glee: The Rocky Horror Glee Show
A lot of Glee's numbers are absolutely fabulous and themed, but one of the best has to be season 2's The Rocky Horror Glee Show. When Will gets jealous over Emma's new relationship with sexy dentist Carl he decides to move in by incorporating Emma into the Glee club's musical production which he decides to be The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The songs are amazing, the characters great, and the best part has to be Santana's lips at the start! Hahaha.
American Horror Story Freak Show: Edward Mondrake Part 1 and 2
Every episode of American Horror Story is Halloween, but Ryan Murphy pulled out some special stops for season 4's Freak Show Halloween. The two part episodes introduced the legend of Edward Mordrake, a British nobleman who was born with a second face at the back of his head (true story). Edward claimed that the face would often whisper evil notions to him and he eventually committee suicide after being driven mad from it. Now, the carnival performers refuse to perform due to the superstition that Edward Mordrake will take their souls. The episodes feature a lot of Twisty the evil clown, and some spooky green mist that makes for a horror cinematic masterpiece!
