New Horror TV Shows To Watch Now That The Challenge Is Over
We've spent all October watching back to back horror movies, but what about the new TV shows that have popped up? Well now that the 31 Day October Horror Movie Challenge is over, if you are still frothing at the bit for more horrific action, why not sink your teeth into these horror TV shows out now?
The Haunting of Bly Manor
Horror lovers were enamoured with the Netflix spooktacular The Haunting of Hill House, and now season 2, The Haunting of Bly Manor, is available to stream from Netflix as of the 9th October. The prequel of the show is set in 1987 in an English manor house and is based on Henry James’ novella The Turn of the Screw. The season features many similar aspects to the first one, with many cast members from Hill House returning but in new American Horror Story style roles. It's got all of the family drama from the first season, as well as a tragic love story that kicks off the season.
“We’re looking at all the ghost stories of Henry James as the jumping-off point for the season,” Showrunner Mike Flannigan told Birth.Movies.Death, “so it very much is a whole new deal. For Henry James fans, it’s going to be pretty wild, and for people who aren’t familiar with his work, it’s going to be unbelievably scary. I already think it’s much scarier than season one, so I’m very excited about it.”
Lovecraft Country
It seems a little bit out of the box, but Lovecraft Country is a horror/drama TV show on HBO about a young African-American man who is travelling across the US in search of his missing father in the 1950's. The show itself can be somewhat slow, but once you start getting into the terrors of the monsters that are ripped from a H.P. Lovecraft novel (including Cthulhu!) it really starts to pick up, but the beauty behind the show is that the racist terrors of white America during the 1950's are just as horrifying as the monsters itself.
Part commentary of racism in America during the 50s (which is still going strong today) and part imaginarium, Lovecraft Country is an interesting take on bringing the eclectic works of H.P. Lovecraft back into the spotlight, and honestly they do it really well!
The Walking Dead: World Beyond
AMC's The Walking Dead is in it's tenth season and when things started getting slow for the main characters the creators decided to open the world of the zombies up with several new TV shows and even a movie. The first was Fear the Walking Dead, which focused on the start of the walker's plague on the world, and there is even going to be a Walking Dead movie which will focus on what happened to Andrew Lincoln's character Sheriff Rick Grimes after he was taken away via helicopter in the ninth season. But the new TV Show, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, is a new take on zombies that are targeted to bring in a younger audience, the kind who are enjoying the new horror movie The New Mutants.
The series will focus on the first generation to grow up during the zombie apocalypse. It is pitched that some will become heroes and others will become villains (because that's how life works right?) but either way it looks epic.
